Viv Richards praises ‘powerful’ India

Cricket legend Vivian Richards visited the Indian team’s dressing room to show his support for them during the T20 World Cup 2024.

He assured them that if the West Indies falter, he would be backing the Indian team to emerge victorious.

Richards, who participated in the medal ceremony after India’s win over Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, praised Indian team’s performance and asked if they were aiming to go all the way.

Addressing the players, Richards expressed admiration for their strength as a team, remarking that if his
own West Indian team didn’t succeed, he would throw his support behind them.

“Well done today, going all the way?” he asked.

“What can I say to a team that is already so powerful? You have a good thing going here and I can only say that if the guys in maroon don’t get it done, I will be backing you. Is that reasonable enough?

“As a Caribbean person, really good to see what you have here,” Richards said in the video posted by the BCCI.

During the ceremony, Richards presented the fielding medal to Suryakumar Yadav for a remarkable catch at square leg that dismissed Bangladesh’s opener Litton Das.

He also expressed delight at seeing Rishabh Pant, affectionately calling him the “pocket rocket,” back in action after recent challenges.

“Pant it’s great to see you back here after what you have been through. We would have missed the great talent and what you have to offer in the future.”

“Just great to see you, and the way you are playing your cricket, love it enjoy it. Well done,” he added.

As India leads their group with four points from two matches and a strong net run rate, they are set to face Australia in their final Super Eights encounter.
