Singer-actor Nick Jonas and Tony Award-winning actor Adrienne Warren will headline the first-ever Broadway production of Jason Robert Brown’s musical "The Last Five Years” as reported by the NBC. The musical, which has garnered a dedicated following since its Off-Broadway debut in 2002, will open in spring 2025. The production will be directed by Whitney White, who was nominated for a Tony Award for "Jaja’s African Hair Braiding"

Producers Seaview, Ambassador Theatre Group, and The Season described the project as “a bold, brand-new production.” In a statement, White expressed her excitement: “The Last Five Years is one of the greatest original American musicals in the canon. I could not be more excited to bring it to Broadway for the first time with Nick and Adrienne, two powerhouse performers and lovers of theatre”.

Jonas and Warren will portray Jamie and Cathy, respectively—two New Yorkers navigating their relationship over five years. The musical explores whether the couple can remain connected as their paths diverge. The production has had numerous stagings, including a notable 2016 London production and a 2014 film adaptation starring Jeremy Jordan and Anna Kendrick.

Jason Robert Brown, the composer and playwright, reflected on the journey of the musical: “For twenty-five years, I have let The Last Five Years lead me on its journey... I have always believed that when the time was right, The Last Five Years would make its way to Broadway. To have Nick and Adrienne taking on these roles is a composer’s dream come true”

As reported by NBC Jonas and Warren are scheduled to present at tonight’s Tony Awards ceremony. Jonas, who has appeared on Broadway in productions like "Les Misérables" and "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," will bring his extensive stage experience to the role. Warren, celebrated for her Tony-winning performance as Tina Turner in "Tina," will bring her dynamic talent to the production.

The venue, opening night, and additional creative team members will be announced at a later date. Musical numbers in "The Last Five Years" include "The Next Ten Minutes," "A Miracle Would Happen/When You Come Home to Me," "Shiksa Goddess," and "Still Hurting." White added, “I know that audiences will be blown away, once again, by the brilliance of Jason Robert Brown’s one-of-a-kind composition, orchestration, and musical vision”
