CM orders operation to cut fares

Laments lack of relief to people after fuel price drop

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed the provincial administration on Saturday to provide relief to the people through reduction of transport fares as a result of s considerable decline in the fuel prices.

Chairing a meeting, CM Maryam Nawaz expressed her indignation on lack of pact on the transport fares of the reduction of Rs35 in the per litre petroleum prices

She directed the transport ministry and police to launch an operation to ensure an immediate reduction in the transport fares.

She also directed the Complaints and Inspection Commission to take prompt measures in this regard.

The Chief Minister directed the officials concerned to ensure maintaining the prices of bread, transport fares and other edibles at the official rates and said negligence in this regard would not be tolerated. The CM issued immediate directions for timely removal of animal waste and provision of sheds to protect the animals from sunlight in the cattle markets.

For the first time, distribution of 3.2 million special bags to the people has been started to dispose of the waste on the Eid.

The CM directed the authorities to ensure the availability of doctors, water and other essential facilities in the cattle markets. She said, "The quality of cleanliness should be similar to that which was observed during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's tenure as chief minister."

CM Maryam Nawaz called for deployment of lifeguards in order to save the lives of the people in the canals along with formulating an effective traffic plan to help commuters avoid bottlenecks. She also took notice of a severe traffic jam at Thokar Niaz Baig on Friday and directed the authorities to ensure that such an unpleasant situation does not recur.

The chief minister ordered strict measures to ensure law and order across the province.

"I will personally oversee all the situation during Eid holidays," she added.

During a meeting with apex bodies of bar councils,

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced an increase in the grant for the wellbeing of lawyers to Rs1 billion.

She also announced a plan to build a hall for women lawyers and day care centres in the bar councils.
