King Charles attends Trooping the Colour in carriage amid cancer treatment

The King attended Trooping the Colour in a carriage, marking a shift from last year's horseback participation.

King Charles made a distinctive appearance at this year's Trooping the Colour, travelling in a carriage with Queen Camilla. 

Currently undergoing cancer treatment, the King left Buckingham Palace in an Ascot Landau carriage, a change from last year when he rode a black horse named Noble. This modification follows Buckingham Palace's guidelines that each of the King's public engagements would be reviewed and adjusted based on medical advice.

Recently resuming public duties, King Charles conducted the Trooping the Colour review from the carriage. The Ascot Landau carriages, used for the Royal Meeting at Ascot, are housed by the Royal Mews. After the procession, the King joined his family on the Buckingham Palace balcony to witness the RAF flypast, including the famous Red Arrows.

Last year, Charles was the first monarch in 37 years to ride a horse at Trooping the Colour, a tradition maintained by the late Queen until she switched to a carriage in 1986, continuing until her passing in 2022.

Earlier this week, King Charles attended the King's Foundation inaugural awards ceremony with celebrities such as Sir Rod Stewart and David Beckham. He also led a ceremony at Windsor Castle, commending the "professionalism, courage and humour" of the Irish Guards. During this event, he presented new colours to Number 9 and 12 Companies, Irish Guards, recognizing their efforts during the Covid pandemic.

Trooping the Colour is an annual event celebrating the monarch's official birthday, despite King Charles' actual birthday being on November 14.
