Punjab approves 15 uplift schemes for Pindi

Projects include flyovers, water schemes & education facilities

The Punjab government has approved the construction and expansion of 15 projects in the upcoming fiscal year 2024-25 for the development of the Rawalpindi district.

The projects include a flyover, Kacherhi Chowk flyover and underpass, Mahota Dam and Chahan Dam water supply scheme besides health and educational projects. Work on these projects will begin in August this year.

District Development Coordination Committee Chairman MNA Qamarul Islam told The Express Tribune that the first flyover would be built at the congested and busiest Corporation Chowk on Adiala Road with an estimated cost of Rs1.5 billion. Adiala Road will also be extended to Gorakhpur. The project of Chakri Adda-Harnianwala Road via Bilawal Adda has also been approved for Rs2.20b for which Rs350 million would be released in this financial year.

A grant of Rs62m has been approved for the construction of Chakri to Dhadambar Road which will be completed within the same financial year with full cost. An amount of Rs130 million has been approved for the construction of Harka Bisali Road, while Rs50 million has been approved for the completion of the remaining work of Karrar Road.

An important link between Adiala Road and Rawat Chakri Road-- Jarar camp diversion from Kachi Jodiran -- has been added to the list of projections at the eleventh hour. The project will cost Rs210m. An amount of Rs13m will be released for the project in FY25. Murat Road on the side of Main Chakri Road will also be completed with funds of Rs50m in the next fiscal year. five crores.

The government has earmarked Rs270m for the construction of Jodrian- Chakri Road, Rs48m for Chak Bailey Bypass, Rs18m for Rs5m Rescue 1122 Chak Bailey Khan, Joriyan. With the completion of Joriyan Hospital in the next financial year, its full benefits will begin to reach the common man.

Additional funds of Rs200m have been sanctioned for the expansion of the Mahota Dam irrigation system and the completion of the remaining works.

Rs6.5b Chehan Dam drinking water supply scheme will start in September. Rs20m were released for Rs5b worth of water supply schemes of Morgah, Kotha Kalan 1, Kotha Kalan 2 and adjacent areas of Rahmatabad, Dhok Munshi etc in the outgoing fiscal year. Similarly, Rs20m funds were released for the ongoing water supply scheme of Lakhan, Mohri Ghazan and Dhamiyal.

The Kachehri Chowk remodelling project will be kicked at a cost of Rs2b in the fiscal year, while Rs13.4m have been sanctioned for the completion of Jhata Hatial Girls Degree College.
