Matty Healy, the frontman of The 1975, has addressed recent speculation from Taylor Swift fans suggesting that he sent a subtle message to his ex-girlfriend through a recent Instagram post.
The rumors began after Healy, 35, shared Charli XCX’s emotional new song "So I," which is about her late friend Sophia.
The song’s lyrics, which mention “always” having someone on your mind after “push[ing them] away,” led one social media user to speculate that Healy's post was directed at Swift, whom he briefly dated last year. "Are we reaching to think that these lyrics on HIS story could be a signal to Taylor?" the fan tweeted over the weekend.
We need a new psychological term for a contemporary form of narcissism that is somehow not refracted internally onto the self but rather onto the object of a standom. pic.twitter.com/MHB0paqtAV

Another user responded by criticizing the fans’ speculation, calling for a new psychological term to describe their behavior. A subsequent user also commented on the “narcissism” of Swifties. When a screenshot of this reply was shared on Instagram, Healy “liked” the post.
This social media activity comes after a report by Us Weekly indicated that Healy now finds Swift’s "The Tortured Poets Department" album "hilarious" despite initially feeling "blindsided" by its release in April.
When asked about the album by paparazzi, Healy claimed to not have “really listened to that much of it” but added, “I’m sure it’s good.” His family also commented, with his mother joking about her lack of awareness of the album and his aunt implying there was more to the story.
Swift and Healy have known each other since 2014, with news of their relationship breaking in May 2023. After being photographed together multiple times and reportedly kissing, some Swift fans expressed their disapproval and even wrote an open letter urging Swift to address Healy’s past controversies. The relationship ended in June 2023 due to scheduling conflicts and incompatibility, according to Entertainment Tonight.
