Amy Robach's choice to enter a relationship with T.J. Holmes was influenced by her experience with cancer.

In the latest episode of ‘Amy & T.J.’, filmed live in New York City on June 10, Robach opened up about the reasons behind her decision to date Holmes.

At the beginning of their relationship, both Robach, aged 51, and Holmes, aged 46, were still working together as hosts on ‘GMA3: What You Need to Know.’ They were also privately going through separations from their respective spouses; Robach was married to Andrew Shue, while Holmes was married to Marilee Fiebig.

“[My] cancer journey played a huge role in my decision,” she said during the episode, adding, “I asked myself, if your cancer came back and you knew you had one year to live, how would you spend it? And it wasn't even close. I would spend it with T.J.”

“I have preached, and I've given speeches to breast cancer survivors … and anyone who's gone through anything life-threatening or had anything where you thought you might die, whatever it is. You learn that tomorrow is not guaranteed,” she continued.

During a December 2023 episode of Amy & T.J., Holmes recalled that “something else was evolving” between him and Robach during the summer of 2022.

“We kind of tiptoed around it, and I didn't want to say anything. You didn't want to say anything, but then as we proceeded through last summer, things definitely changed and we started having conversations,” he said in the episode.
