RAWALPINDI:

A National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) Inspector was suspended from service for allegedly abusing and threatening a truck driver near Burhan on Motorway M1. Authorities have launched an inquiry after video footage of the incident came into the limelight.

The incident took place a few days ago. In the video footage, the officer could be seen walking towards the truck while holding a weapon. It could be heard and seen in the video that the truck driver and crew are saying while filming the video, “Look, he is pulling out weapons on us’. The truck driver and crew could also be heard saying on video that, “He is threatening to shoot us. Challan is his right, but he is not following the law’. The video footage also shows the MP Inspector snatching a cell phone from the truck driver.

In the video, the official could further be seen holding the rifle in reverse and moving towards the truck driver, seeking help from his colleague and talking over the wireless set.

Motorway police authorities suspended the Inspector from service. An NHMP spokesperson said that after issuing a fine ticket, the officer tried to threaten the driver, adding the investigation was continuing to determine if the officer was guilty. A strict action would be taken as per law, he maintained.

According to the spokesman, the Motorway Police is known for its courteous behaviour which could not be compromised at all.
