Nine injured in terrorist attacks in DI Khan, Kurram

DI KHAN/ KURRAM:

At least nine people, including seven army personnel, were injured in two separate terrorist attacks in Kurram and Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan) districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Saturday.

Unidentified terrorists attacked a security forces check post in the Kurram tribal district last night leaving seven personnel injured. The attack was repulsed after a heavy exchange of fire, forcing the attackers to flee under the cover of darkness.

A contingent of the army was sent to the area as reinforcement which shifted the injured to a nearby hospital.

“A major and captain are also among the injured. All of them were shifted to hospital where the condition of one of the injured is stated to be critical,” said a police official while talking to The Express Tribune.

He said a search operation had been launched in the area and that several people had been arrested.

In a separate incident, a police party was attacked with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) by terrorists during a search operation in the troubled Kulachi tehsil of DI Khan. The blast left two policemen slightly injured. 

Police responded by firing at the terrorists who fled in panic. The attack took place near the Chief Minister’s farm house in Hatala.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and the Chief Minister condemned the attack. In his message, the Governor also expressed his best wishes for the recovery of the injured policemen.

The Governor also expressed his concern and regret over successive attacks on police personnel in Dera and other districts.

The Chief Minister also expressed his best wishes for the recovery of the two policemen injured in the incident and directed the district administration to ensure timely provision of medical aid to the injured.

Police have made eternal sacrifices for the protection of people’s lives and property, Chief Minister Gandapur also said in his message, adding that K-P police had fought terrorism with great courage and bravery and that the government and the people of the province stood with the security forces.
