Conor McGregor has taken to social media to give a playful update on UFC 303.
Fears are growing that the Irishman may be out of his eagerly-anticipated comeback fight later this month following the short-notice cancellation of a press conference with Michael Chandler in Dublin.
Unsubstantiated rumors suggest that the former two-division champion might miss UFC 303’s main event due to an injury.
McGregor, 35, seemed to lean into these rumors by sharing a photo on Instagram of himself lying down on a physio's chair, smiling wryly with a muscle emoji as the caption.
Scores of McGregor’s 45 million followers flooded the comment section seeking clarity. One wrote, "WTF is going on?" Another commented, "Are you fighting or what?" A third added, "Bro, please say something, man." Others asked, "Is the fight off?" and noted, "Bro is s**tposting."
McGregor's post came hours after former three-time Bellator lightweight champ Chandler hinted that he's left his training camp. Chandler, 37, who has been preparing for the fight at Kill Cliff FC in Deerfield, Florida, wrote on Instagram, "If you’re looking for me, I’ll be out in Tennessee. No way out of the life we chose… Walk On. See you at the top!"
Neither McGregor nor the UFC brass have given a reason for the short-notice cancellation of Monday’s press conference. Both, however, issued apologetic statements to the 10,000 fans set to attend the 3Arena.
McGregor, the UFC’s first simultaneous two-weight world champion, hasn’t fought in nearly three years. He last competed against Dustin Poirier, suffering a left tibia and fibula fracture in his most recent bout.
