Jeremy Renner shared in an episode of the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast on Tuesday, June 4, revealing to host Josh Horowitz that he declined an offer to return as William Brandt in Mission: Impossible — Fallout. Instead, he chose to prioritize spending time with his 11-year-old daughter, Ava, whom he co-parents with his ex, Sonni Pacheco.
“There [was] no schedule, so I can’t go out for a year and a half. I gotta go be a dad,” the Marvel actor shared.
“I can’t just move my daughter out here because [her] mom is — you know, I was landlocked out here. I couldn’t film overseas anymore,” he added.
“I remember they tried to bring me overseas for a week so they could kill my character, and I was like, ‘No, you don’t get to do that. You’re not going to drag me over there and just kill my character,’ like get out of here!” Renner shared.
“If you’re going to do this and you’re going to use my character, you’re going to do it right,” added the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ star.
The actor confessed to confronting Christopher McQuarrie, the director of the film, for attempting to kill his character.
Renner did offer a glimmer of hope for 'Mission: Impossible' fans, stating, "When my daughter’s older, maybe there’s more of an opportunity do something.”
The actor welcomed his daughter with Pacheco in March 2013.
