Family of deceased protest against police

KALA SHAH KAKU:

Police firing on a car on Narowal Road claimed the life of a labourer.

The deceased was father of seven children.

After protest by his family, SP Investigation Rana Ghulam Abbas ordered the arrest of a constable involved in the incident, Agha Shahin.

The police registered a case against the constable on the complaint of the deceased's father.

According to reports, Muhammad Afzal, a resident of Dawooke Bazaar in Muridke, was driving his car on Narowal Road with his friend Iftikhar when Constable Agha Shahin opened fire on the vehicle, resulting in Afzal's death and severe injuries to Iftikhar.

The injured man alleged that the policeman had fired at them.

Upon learning about the death of Afzal at the hands of the police, his relatives, including women, protested against the police.

The deceased's father, Arshad, said that the police had not recorded the statement of the family members and had registered the FIR without their consent. Afzal's mother, Kubra Bibi, wife Khalida and son Muhammad Ali said he lived a simple life in a two-marla house. They alleged that the police had wrongfully killed the man.

When contacted, SP Ghulam Abbas said legal requirements would be fulfilled in the case.

He said Constable Agha Shahin has been arrested and detailed investigation would be conducted to bring anyone else involved in the killing to justice.
