Prince Andrew's hard life in the Royal Lodgings

Isolated in his grand estate, Andrew faces relentless pressure and mounting repair costs leaving his future uncertain.

While many dream of living in a 30-room grand estate, Prince Andrew reportedly spends his days “watching TV in a dark room,” according to The Sun. 

The disgraced Duke of York, 64, resides at the £30 million Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, Berkshire—at least for now. King Charles, 75, has intensified efforts to evict the Duke, with insiders calling the situation the "siege of Royal Lodge."

According to a friend, Andrew has become a "prisoner of his own pride" as he resists his brother’s demands. The Royal Lodge reportedly requires extensive repairs, costing about £400,000 annually. Despite having already spent £7.5 million on repairs, the Sun sources claim Andrew cannot sustain the expenses. Since his move, minimal work has been done on the property.

The Sun also reported last year that the home needs an estimated £2 million in repairs, with Andrew allegedly paying £200,000 for roof repairs. Recent photos revealed the mansion’s stucco-like exterior deteriorating and mold growing on it.

Andrew's resistance continues despite the mounting costs, as he cites his 75-year lease. The Sun also revealed that he turned down the offer to move into Frogmore Cottage last year after Harry and Meghan were evicted.

The ongoing crisis is further highlighted by Netflix’s drama Scoop, which detailed Andrew's disastrous Newsnight interview. Additionally, an Amazon series featuring Michael Sheen as Andrew portrays his downfall.
