In one video clip, Halsey expressed feeling "like an old lady" due to her illness and treatment. She declared her determination to reclaim her health and vitality, stating, "When I'm 30, I'm having a rebirth. I'm not going to be sick. I'm going to look super-hot and have lots of energy. I'm just going to get to redo my 20s and 30s."

The singer also shared snippets of her hospital stays, showcasing a mix of emotions ranging from tears to smiles and sleep. These intimate moments provide a glimpse into the highs and lows of her experience.

Halsey's boyfriend, actor Avan Jogia, and fellow singer Rita Ora were among the first to offer their support on social media. Jogia expressed his love and pride for Halsey, while Ora sent her well wishes.

Prior to releasing "The End," Halsey teased new music and hinted at its personal significance. She emphasised the importance of this record and expressed her desire to start at "The End" with this first single.

The song's lyrics reflect Halsey's health struggles and her relationship with Jogia, whom she has been dating since summer 2023. She sings about feeling like "damaged goods" and having "poison in [her] brain and in [her] blood." However, the song also suggests a sense of hope and healing, as she sings about finding a lover who is "better for [her] liver" and with whom she can finally recover.
