Halsey’s For My Last Trick teases new song with confusing website filled with easter eggs

The website contains a mysterious typewritten letter, 70s inspired stickers and a link to Halsey's Spotify playlist.

Halsey's upcoming era is on the horizon, as the singer discreetly announced on a mysterious website that a new single will be released on June 4.

Last week, Halsey directed fans to a website called For My Last Trick. This site is not connected to the release of Eminem's "Houdini," where he coincidentally teased, "For my last trick, I'm going to make my career disappear."

Halsey's For My Last Trick site is brimming with fake 1970s memorabilia scattered across the screen. While most items are non-functional when clicked, one notable item — a movie ticket stub labeled "The End" — reveals a typewritten letter from Ashley Frangipane (Halsey's real name), who is portrayed as a program director at a fictional Los Angeles radio station.

In the letter dated “6/?/71,” Halsey states,  “As you may have guessed, I have written a new album. But I needed some time to figure out how to say what I needed to say.”

The singer went on, “There’s so much I’m going to reveal on this record, but you need to know some of the story first. So before the chaos and confetti of big singles and album releases I just need to tell you, my friend, why it all matters this time. I’m releasing a new song on June 4. It’s just for us. Let’s start at THE END,” suggesting that could be the title of the new single.

Another item on the For My Last Trick website, a record label for “Lesstime Hits and Grooves,” opens a Spotify playlist titled “?” containing 29 songs that appear to have inspired Halsey’s upcoming era.

The playlist predominantly features 1970s artists such as Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, Gordon Lightfoot, and Fleetwood Mac, alongside lesser-known acts like Jackson C. Frank, Sibylle Baier, and Caedmon. It also includes some artists from after the 1970s, such as Alex G, Tracy Chapman, and Elliott Smith.

Another item on the For My Last Trick website, a sticker reading “I Have Something to Tell You,” takes fans to join a mailing list where additional details are likely to be shared in the lead-up to the new single's release on June 4.

Halsey's last album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, was released in 2021. The announcement of new music comes nearly a year after Halsey signed with Columbia Records, ending a decade-long tenure with Capitol.
