Orders ‘plug-and-play’ garments city in Sheikhupura

“We want to solve problems of the business community to increase exports and employment opportunities,” Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said during a visit to the Quaid-i-Azam Business Park in Sheikhupura. She added, ”Progress in the growth of exports is satisfactory.”

The chief minister directed the authorities concerned to build a ‘plug-and-play’ garments city in the business park and said, ”The construction of garments city will not only help in the creation of 100,000 employment opportunities, but would also contribute much towards women’s empowerment.”

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said, ”We are establishing the best garments city in Punjab.”

She also considered a proposal to build a labour colony and technical training centre in the business park.

The chief minister directed the authorities to complete the business park link road in a month besides a massive plantation drive in the area. She also planted a sapling on the premises.

The chief minister directed the relevant departments to take immediate steps for the construction of a motorway interchange to ensure easy access to the business park.

She summoned and directed the regional police officer to take immediate action to improve the law and order situation within 10 days.

The chairman of the first unit of the Quaid-i-Azam Business Park gave a detailed briefing on the project.

Senator Pervaiz Rashid and MPA Sania Ashiq accompanied the chief minister, while Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, C&W Secretary Sohail Ashraf, Industry Secretary Ehsan Bhatta, the commissioner, deputy commissioner, CEO of the Punjab Industrial Estate Development and Management Company, prominent industrialists and other relevant officers were also present.

Meanwhile, the agriculture department and Bank of Punjab signed an MoU in the presence of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for using the Kissan Card for the provision of quality seeds, manure and pesticides to farmers.

Direct subsidy will also be provided through the card.

It was informed during a briefing that bank will be the first partner regarding implementation of the programme. It will provide financial assistance, including loans, to the deserving farmers.

Attending a ceremony for the provision of hearing aids and launching a special education enrolment campaign, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a plan to establish 300 special education schools as centres of excellence across Punjab.

The students of special education department in Sargodha presented the CM a painting and a sketch.

The chief minister launched an enrolment campaign of out-of-school special children. UNICEF representative Abdullah Fadil and the special education secretary also addressed the ceremony.

The chief minister said on the occasion, “I commend the teachers of the special children. We will establish 300 special education schools as centres of excellence. We are establishing centres of excellence for the special children in every district and international quality facilities will be provided in them. We will do whatever we can to bring the special children into the mainstream.”

She said the government had granted funds to set up a special institution for autism.

“Whosoever wants a wheelchair should write to me and it will be granted immediately. I am going to launch a project for the provision of wheelchairs soon. If the children are provided hearing aid and glasses, then they can come to public school from a special school. I am highly indebted on being given immense love from these children,” she added.
