Hazara faces bread shortage as nanbais strike

Tandoor owners striking and withholding bread supply are causing significant inconvenience to citizens.

The Nanbai Association has rejected the administration’s official price list of Rs15 for a 120-gram roti (bread) and has initiated a strike across the Hazara division.

Tandoor owners, adhering to the strike call, are causing significant inconvenience to citizens by withholding the supply of bread. Tandoor owners in Haripur, Ghazi, Khanpur, Hattar, Khalabat, and surrounding areas have ceased operations for an indefinite period.

Preceding the strike, the association distributed notices a day earlier, duly informing both the district administration and citizens about the impending action.

Local sources report that officials of the Nanbai Association expressed discontent with the administration’s unilateral decision to set the roti price at Rs15, citing the financial strain on nanbais. They demand negotiation and reconsideration of the price adjustment to mitigate their losses. Until a revised price list is issued, the association pledges to sustain the strike across Hazara, keeping tandoors shuttered.

It may be noted that the strike notices have been circulated among tandoor owners, although lacking official signatures from the association. Despite this, tandoor owners unanimously confirm their participation in the strike.

Concerned citizens have urged the commissioner, district administration and relevant authorities to promptly address the strike, initiating dialogue or devising contingency plans to alleviate the inconvenience caused by the bread shortage.
