YouTuber Sojang recently faced legal proceedings following a series of allegations made against her.
She was primarily accused of defaming IVE’s Jang Wonyoung, Aespa, and Kang Daniel. The agencies representing these K-pop artists filed a lawsuit against the YouTuber for her malicious behavior earlier last month.
Specifically, IVE’s agency, Starship Entertainment, filed a lawsuit against the YouTuber for producing harmful content that threatened Jang Wonyoung’s public image.
The agency reportedly won the lawsuit, and the court ordered Sojang to pay 100 million KRW to the plaintiffs.
On May 27, Sojang attended her first court trial following an indictment on defamation charges. She asserted that the YouTube videos she created about IVE’s Jang Wonyoung, Kang Daniel, Aespa, and other celebrities were based on information she believed to be accurate.
Further reports indicate that on June 15, 2022, she posted a video on her channel with the defamatory title, "The dirty personal life of national boyfriend idols and actors."
In this video, she allegedly disseminated false information about several male celebrities, damaging their reputations.
In total, during the timeline of October 2021 to June 2023, Sojang reportedly posted almost 23 videos with fabricated information about celebrities.
Furthermore, her channel amassed nearly 60,000 subscribers and generated an average monthly income of 10 million KRW. Reportedly, she earned a staggering 250 million KRW from all her malicious videos.
The Sojang YouTube channel has now been removed.
