The Offspring attracted a remarkable audience on the final day of BottleRock Napa Valley 2024, partly due to a surprise appearance from singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran.
Amidst the scorching Napa heat on Sunday, May 26, the Orange County punk band performed on the Verizon Stage at the Wine Country festival.
Surprising festival attendees, the rockers later delighted the crowd by inviting one of their most devoted fans to join them onstage.
“Ed told us that one of our records was his first CD that he ever bought when he was a kid. That really meant a lot to us, so we thought, ‘Wow, we’d love to have you come out to join us on stage,’” Holland recounted as Sheeran prepared to join them with his guitar.
“We’re gonna play one of the songs you wanted to play.”
Following that, they immediately launched into "Million Miles Away," a track from The Offspring's 2000 album "Conspiracy of One," which, according to Holland, the band hasn't performed live since 2016.
Prior to Sheeran's arrival, guitarist Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman proudly declared that the band had already created history at BottleRock.
“We’re setting a world record … in attendance at BottleRock here tonight: 1,334,506 people here tonight!” he informed Holland during a break between songs.
“I admire your enthusiasm, but I think that’s a little exaggerated,” Holland responded.
He was obviously joking— the outdoor event typically attracts around 40,000 attendees per day— but it was a memorable performance that fans will cherish.
In the earlier part of the band's performance, The Offspring treated the audience to a nostalgic array of songs spanning from their '90s classics like "Come Out and Play" and "Pretty Fly for a White Guy" to "Want You Bad," also from their sixth studio album, "Conspiracy of One."
“I want to thank Ed Sheeran for playing with us. How cool is that?” Noodles exclaimed, just before the band concluded with their 1994 hit "Self Esteem."
