Grammy award-winning artist Billie Eilish has taken a deep plunge—literally—for the artwork of her latest album, "Hit Me Hard and Soft."

The pop sensation discussed her unique underwater photoshoot on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" this Tuesday, revealing the lengths she went to capture the perfect image, just one day after the Grammys.

The album cover features Eilish lying on her back, fully clothed, in a 10-foot-deep tank with an ethereal white door floating above her.

"This was the day after this last Grammys, actually. I had gone to sleep at 7am. I woke up, I dyed my hair black – it was like bright red,” Eilish recounted her hectic schedule leading up to the shoot in Santa Clarita.

“Then I went to this random place... There’s a tank in this giant place, and it was, like, 10 ft deep. And I popped my little ass in there, and I was in there for six hours,” she added.

The artist described the ensemble she wore, which included big pants, shorts, a thermal long-sleeve, a flannel button-up, a tie, and several accessories, all weighted down to keep her submerged.

“I had a weight strapped to me,” Eilish explained. “It’s like I need to suffer,” she half-joked with Colbert, admitting the risks she takes for her art.

Discussing the thematic depth of her album, Eilish shared that "Hit Me Hard and Soft" delves into existential themes, body image, and love.

“A lot of my inspirations for the visuals on this album were optical illusion-type things. Things that just make you question it or think about it for longer,” she explained, emphasizing the personal nature of the project.

“It truly is the most genuine thing I’ve ever made,” she continued, acknowledging the emotional weight of revealing her true self through her music and visuals.
