Bridgerton actor Nicola Coughlan is stepping into the lead role for the hit Netflix series’ third season, but she refuses to let her star turn get in the way of her advocacy work when it comes to supporting Palestine and calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The actor recently attended the Bridgerton premiere wearing a white gown, the only splash of colour being her Artists4Ceasefire pin.

Throughout the Bridgerton release week, when she knew all eyes would be on her and her social media, the Derry Girls actor amped up her efforts to spread awareness for Gaza. She posted on Instagram, asking her followers to call for a ceasefire. Amongst these posts, was an image of her wearing the Artists4Ceasefire pin, which she captioned, “You might have seen me wear a red pin on the red carpet and press events during the last while and I thought it would be a good time to share some information about Artists4Ceasefire and what we stand for.”

While she switched off the comments for this particular post, Nicola’s next post, a video of her on Late Night with Seth Meyers wearing the same red pin, allowed people to comment. The comment section of this post was flooded by netizens praising her for being on the right side of history. A user commented, “Thank you, Nicola, for supporting Palestinians and speaking out against the ongoing genocide against them.” Another wrote, “Will forever be proud of her.  The way she fearlessly stands for Palestine.”

Al Buruj Press also lauded the actor for consistently speaking out. They shared their admiration in an Instagram post which said, “On the day that Bridgerton, one of the biggest shows on television, just premiered its third season, the lead of the show is posting about Rafah when she knows people will be looking at her accounts. Nicola Coughlan, I will always love you.”

In an interview with Teen Vogue, Nicola spoke about using her social media platforms to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza despite being warned that it could cost her job. She has already raised thousands of pounds for relief efforts through Instagram fundraisers.

“I think it’s important to me because firstly, I’m a very privileged person,” the Big Mood actor stated. “I’m so lucky I’ve gotten to this point in my career, and I’m privileged as a white woman, first off. Then, the fact that I get to do the job I love and travel the world and meet amazing people, I feel a moral responsibility to give back.”

When it comes to what’s happening in Gaza, Nicola said, “You do get told that you won’t get work, you won’t do this. But I also think, deep down, if you know that you’re coming from a place of not wanting any innocent people to suffer, then I’m not worried about people’s reactions.”

Apart from this, Nicola has shared pro-Palestinian content on her Instagram Stories multiple times, urging her followers to join her in taking a stand for Palestine.
