Ghost of Tsushima's PC release has proven successful, becoming PlayStation's largest single-player game launch on Steam.

Despite prior PSN sign-up controversies like the one affecting Helldivers 2, Ghost of Tsushima has defied expectations, although some speculation persists regarding Sony's cautious approach, which has not entirely shielded the game from early negative reviews.

Initially, Ghost of Tsushima received negative reviews on Steam due to lingering discontent over the Helldivers 2 PSN sign-up controversy.

However, the reviews improved significantly afterward, according to Forbes.

Arrowhead Game Studios had announced a requirement for Helldivers 2 PC players to link their PSN accounts to Steam, resulting in widespread backlash.

Sony eventually reversed this decision due to negative publicity and a flood of negative reviews on Steam.

In contrast, Ghost of Tsushima's PSN account requirement was more transparently communicated, with Sucker Punch Productions clarifying that it was only necessary for multiplayer co-op and the PlayStation overlay.

Consequently, players can enjoy the majority of the game's content, the single-player campaign, without linking a PSN account to their Steam account.

According to Steam DB data cited by GamesRadar, Ghost of Tsushima has reached a peak concurrent player count of 77,500, surpassing titles like Marvel's Spider-Man, God of War 2018, and The Last of Us Part 1.

Despite this achievement, Helldivers 2 remains Sony's most successful PC game, having sold 12 million copies across PS5 and Steam within just 12 weeks.

Nonetheless, Sony is likely pleased with Ghost of Tsushima's PC launch, especially considering its initial release on PlayStation 4 in July 2020.
