Sarah Paulson claps back at actor who sent her six pages of performance notes

Actress Sarah Paulson who is  currently gracing the Broadway stage in "Appropriate," shared a rather outrageous encounter with unsolicited feedback on the podcast "SmartLess." During the recent episode, Paulson recounted an experience from her time starring in the play "Talley's Folly."

The Emmy and Tony-nominated actress revealed that a fellow actress, who had previously played the same role Paulson was portraying, sent her a whopping six pages of notes following the performance. Paulson identified the actress as Trish Hawkins, who originated the character of Sally Talley in both the play's off-Broadway and Broadway debut during the late 1970s. Paulson took on the same role in a 2013 off-Broadway revival.

According to Paulson's recollection, the unsolicited feedback began even before the email arrived. Hawkins, who reportedly attended the play with Paulson's mother (they were in a writing group together), felt compelled to comment on the color of Paulson's dress worn in the performance. This was just the preview, however, as Paulson later received a lengthy email detailing Hawkins' own performance choices and recommendations for how Paulson should portray the character.

Paulson didn't mince words when describing the email, calling it "outrageous." She further emphasized her strong feelings towards the unsolicited advice, stating, "Trish Hawkins, I have not forgotten it, and I hope to see you never."

Paulson admitted to keeping the email, as a memento of the bizarre experience. She also made a lighthearted jab at her mother's involvement, keeping the details about the writing group connection humorous.

This episode aside, Paulson is currently enjoying critical acclaim for her role in "Appropriate," which recently earned her the first Tony Award nomination of her career. The play delves into the complexities of family dynamics, exploring themes of buried secrets and long-held resentments as siblings reunite following their father's passing.
