Friend’s star Tom Selleck opens up about his new memoir

Tom Selleck, the iconic actor known for his roles in "Magnum, P.I." “Friends” and "Blue Bloods," is opening up like never before in his new memoir, "You Never Know." In the book, Selleck shares personal stories and insights from his five-decade career in Hollywood.

He reflects on his early days in the Fox New Talent program, his breakout role as Thomas Magnum, and his enduring friendship with fellow actor Sam Elliott. Selleck also discusses his 36-year marriage to Jillie Mack, revealing the details of their secret wedding in 1987.  He recounts the "commando-like precision" required to keep the ceremony private, and the joy of sharing the moment with close family.

However, for many younger fans, his most memorable character remains Dr. Richard Burke from 'Friends'.  Richard, a charming ophthalmologist and a friend of Monica's father, became Monica's love interest in season 2.

Despite their eventual break-up, Richard's recurring appearances throughout the series created some of the sitcom's most iconic moments. Throughout the memoir, Selleck weaves in valuable life lessons he's learned along the way.

He emphasises the importance of choosing one's battles, staying true to oneself, and appreciating the journey. In a recent interview, Selleck discussed his passion for Westerns, a genre he believes is deeply rooted in American culture.  He also shared his thoughts on the future of "Blue Bloods," expressing hope that the show will continue beyond its announced 14th season.

Selleck credits the show's success to its strong characters, compelling storylines, and the iconic Reagan family dinners. He remains optimistic that CBS will recognise the show's continued popularity and renew it for a 15th season. With "You Never Know," Selleck offers fans a rare glimpse into his life and career, sharing stories and insights that will resonate with readers of all ages.
