LAHORE:

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Sunday urged the country’s judiciary to address the concerns in connection with the adherence to a court order concerning the health of party’s founding chairman Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.

Issuing a statement on social media platform X, Gohar emphasised the “critical” importance of ensuring the well-being of the former premier and his spouse.

He maintained that the couple’s health remained a matter of great significance for “millions” of Pakistanis.

Underlining the necessity for judicial oversight, the PTI chairman highlighted the urgent need for the court to enforce its directives requiring regular medical examinations for Imran and his wife conducted by qualified healthcare professionals.

He called for strict measures to be taken against any violations of these court-ordered protocols, urging both the jail administration and governmental authorities to comply with these directives without any exception.

Last month, an accountability court accepted requests for medical examinations of the PTI founding chairman and his wife.

While hearing the £190 million Al-Qadir University land scandal case against Imran and his wife at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, Judge Nasir Javed Rana had also directed that Bushra Bibi’s endoscopy should be conducted at a private hospital -- under the supervision of Dr Asim Younis and a government doctor -- within two days.

Imran claimed that his wife had been given toilet cleaner in her food, adding that her condition was getting worse, with burning stomach.

He told the judge that the jail administration was adamant on conducting the endoscopy at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital because they insisted that the jail manual allowed such tests only at a government hospital.

However, he added that Dr Younis had suggested the test should be carried out at Shifa International.
The court allowed the endoscopy of Imran’s wife at a private hospital on “humanitarian grounds”.
