Minister for Energy, Planning, and Development, Syed Nasir Shah, disclosed the findings of South African experts regarding potential of Thar Coal Block-II, in a meeting held on Sunday.
Experts have deemed the coal suitable for various applications, including gasification, fertilizer production, and the generation of gas and diesel. However, their primary recommendation highlighted the coal's suitability for power generation through gasification.
During the session, Shah outlined plans to send a delegation from Sindh Coal Authority to China for a firsthand inspection of China Modern Gasification plant. This move aims to explore potential technological transfers and gather insights into effective utilization methods.
The research conducted by South African experts affirmed versatility of Thar Coal Block-II, opening avenues for its utilization across multiple sectors. Shah emphasized the importance of exploring gasification technology, which aligns with previous discussions to formulate a comprehensive provincial policy on gasification.
In light of these developments, the minister committed to engaging with federal government to advance policies promoting gas efficiency at provincial level.
The meeting also saw detailed briefings from Secretary Energy Department, Kazim Ali Jatoi, Director General of Sindh Coal Authority, Haq Nawaz Shar, and other key officers.
With Thar Coal Block-II showing promise for diverse applications, stakeholders are poised to capitalize on its potential, marking a significant step towards energy security and sustainable development in the region.
