Canelo Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) has retained his undisputed super middleweight championship belts (WBC, WBO, IBF, WBA) with a unanimous decision victory over Jaime Munguia (43-1, 34 KOs).

The 33-year-old Alvarez overcame a slow start to control the fight and hand Munguia his first professional defeat on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas..

All three judges scored the bout in favour of Alvarez (117-110, 116-111, 115-112).

This marked the first undisputed championship fight between two Mexican-born boxers, and the first super middleweight title fight featuring two fighters from Mexico.

Munguia, 27, put up a fight early but was ultimately outclassed by the more experienced Alvarez. This was Munguia's first professional loss after winning eight of his previous ten fights by stoppage.

The victory extends Alvarez's record for most successful undisputed title defenses in the four-belt era (four). While Alvarez showcased his dominance, he hasn't secured a knockout since defeating Caleb Plant in 2021.

Alvarez's dominant performance also adds to his legacy as one of boxing's all-time greats, especially considering he's 33. This victory echoes his decisive win over Jermell Charlo in September, where he secured an even wider margin on the scorecards.
