From winning the 'Artist in Fashion' award at The EMIGALA Fashion and Beauty Awards 2024 just recently in Dubai to earning Best Actress honours for her poignant portrayal in the 2021 short film Prince Charming at the Indus Valley International Film Festival, Mahira's talent knows no bounds.  

In a statement, the Legend of Maula Jatt star said, “This award is dedicated to all the women who are suffering silently from post-marital depression.” She added, “I’m glad this role touched the audience’s hearts; it’s one of the roles that will live on in my heart forever.” Her contributions to Pakistani cinema have been recognised with prestigious awards like the Lux Style Awards, and Pakistan Media Awards relaying her range and depth as an actor.

Mincing no words

Beyond her on-screen persona, Mahira is a vocal advocate for women's rights and social justice. With eloquence and conviction, she has addressed taboo topics such as post-marital depression and victim-blaming, challenging societal norms and advocating for change. In an interview with Frieha Altaf, she commended the power women have and said, “There is one major strength that women have. When they decide something, that’s the end of it.” 

The actor also stressed the importance of financial stability for women. “I knew I was going to be leaving my husband and taking my child. But I also knew that I did not want to be dependent on anyone, not even my parents.” Mahira has also been a consistently passionate advocate for the Palestinian cause. 

Following Israel’s fresh wave of brutality following October 7, she took to IG and penned, “This is the genocide of Palestinian people. This is killing of innocent human beings - men, women and children. History will remember those who had the power to make a difference and didn’t, those who could bring an end to this and remained quiet.. they will always have blood on their hands. Praying every moment with a broken heart.”

The Superstar actor's fashion choices never fail to impress onlookers with her sophistication and grace - and for good reason.
