Veteran actor and “Battlestar Galactica” star Terry Carter passes away at 95

Carter’s son confirmed the news of his death. No cause of death was specified.

Terry Carter, star of “Battlestar Galactica” and “McCloud,” has died at the age of 95. 

Carter's son, Miguel Carter DeCoste, confirmed the news to The New York Times on Tuesday April 23, stating that the actor passed away peacefully at his Manhattan residence on Tuesday. No cause of death was specified.

Carter's career flourished in the 1950s when he secured a groundbreaking role as Private Sugarman on “The Phil Silvers Show,” becoming one of the first Black actors to land a recurring role in a sitcom. 

This achievement paved the way for a successful television career, which included starring alongside Dennis Weaver for seven seasons on the popular detective series “McCloud.”

Following "McCloud," Carter took on the role of Colonel Tigh in the science fiction series “Battlestar Galactica,” running from 1978-1979.

His diverse filmography also boasts appearances in iconic shows like “That Girl,” “Julia,” “The Jeffersons,” “Falcon Crest,” “Mr. Belvedere,” and “227.”

Beyond acting, Carter garnered acclaim as a documentarian. His creation, direction, and production of the miniseries “KID*S” earned him a Los Angeles Emmy Award in 1985.
