KARACHI:

Eid a festive occasion for the Muslim Ummah remained a traumatic experience for many in the crime-plagued city.

An elderly couple's life was devastated as they were indulging in the simple joys of shopping on Chand Raat. Waseemur Rehman was critically injured trying to dodge robbers at a roadblock in Gulshan-e-Maymar, while coming back with his wife from shopping on the eve of Eidul Fitr.

Waseemur Rehman, 60, succumbed to injuries on Monday morning at a private hospital on Stadium Road. He had been battling for life for six days after being attacked by bandits on Chand Raat in the limits of SITE Superhighway Industrial Area Police Station.

Waseem, accompanied by his wife, was going back home in Gulshan-e-Maymar Sector Y-3, late on Chand Raat after shopping. The bandits attempted to intercept his vehicle within the jurisdiction of the SITE Superhighway Industrial Area police station. When he refused to stop, they opened fire, causing Waseem to sustain a serious gunshot wound to his back.

With the assistance of his wife, he was transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and subsequently transferred to a private hospital located near the stadium. The victim was treated in the intensive care unit for six days and tragically passed away in the early hours of Monday.

Funeral prayer will be offered after Asr at Jamia Masjid Ammar bin Yasir located in Gulshan-e-Maymar Sector Y-3. He will be buried in local graveyard.

Notably, this year, the tally of citizens who lost their lives because of gunfire from bandits in the metropolis has risen to 62.
