"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" has roared past expectations, raking in $80 million domestically and $114 million internationally.

The film's opening weekend triumph marks a major win for Warner Bros. and Legendary's MonsterVerse. Fueled by strong audience enthusiasm and premium format screenings, the film surpassed industry projections.

Despite a less enthusiastic critical reception, "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" is already the third-highest-grossing movie of the year. With a production budget of $135 million, the movie is poised to surpass "Godzilla vs. Kong.”

“The film feels like a cinematic event,” says “Godzilla x Kong” producer Mary Parent. “It delivers in fresh ways we haven’t seen from these characters.”

The success of "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” along with other recent blockbusters, is revitalising the box office after a slow start to the year.

“Every movie counts, and the importance of each film’s performance carries a lot of weight in terms of moving the needle,” says senior Comscore analyst Paul Dergarabedian. “The combination of ‘Dune,’ ‘Kung Fu Panda,’ ‘Ghostbusters’ and now ‘Godzilla’ has shown the power of a few key releases to turn the box office tide in a relatively short amount of time.”
