Is Shah Rukh Khan the reason why his and Suhana's project got postponed?

Beloved and celebrated Indian cinema actor Shah Rukh Khan and his daughter, Suhana Khan, were initially poised to collaborate on a film helmed by director Sujoy Ghosh. Nevertheless, recent developments have brought forth reports suggesting a delay in the highly-anticipated project, as detailed by Filmfare. 

The recent delay in the anticipated collaboration has triggered widespread speculation and inquiries, particularly in the wake of the varied reception of Zoya Akhtar's film The Archies, in which Suhana played the role of Veronica Lodge. The decision to postpone the project has introduced an air of uncertainty about the trajectory of this father-daughter collaboration. Within this context, there are emerging suggestions that Suhana may consider venturing into an independent project, charting a course distinct from her father's cinematic endeavours.

Although the exact reason for delaying the film remains undisclosed, speculations suggest that Shah Rukh is apprehensive about his daughter facing unjust comparisons with the seasoned superstar. A source close to the development revealed to Times Now News, “I don’t think that project is happening, not after The Archies. Suhana needs to find a project as far removed from her father as possible. Earlier, SRK was tempted to get on camera with his daughter ASAP. Now, after The Archies, this historic togetherness is gone on the back burner.”

In the initial reports that surfaced in June of the preceding year, there were intriguing hints of the dynamic father-daughter duo, with Shah Rukh and Suhana, taking on leading roles in a film titled The King. This project, earmarked as Suhana's debut on the grand cinematic stage, created a buzz of anticipation within the industry and among fans. As speculations swirled, Siddharth Anand's name emerged as a potential co-producer, adding an extra layer of excitement to the unfolding narrative. However, as the months passed, a notable shift occurred, with Sujoy assuming the directorial reins for the project in November. 

The much-anticipated film was envisioned as a unique action thriller, aiming to showcase the compelling dynamics between the seasoned superstar and Suhana's emerging talent, whose foray into the OTT space had been met with mixed reviews. Departing from conventional expectations of a more subdued father-daughter narrative, the duo deliberately chose the unconventional path of an action thriller. This decision was rooted in their desire to defy norms and bring a fresh perspective to their inaugural collaboration, as revealed by insider sources from a prominent entertainment news portal.

Despite the recent reports of the film's postponement, responses from Shah Rukh and Suhana are awaited. Shah Rukh, the evergreen Bollywood icon, whose last appearance was in Dunki, is yet to unveil details about his next cinematic endeavour, intensifying the intrigue surrounding this unique cinematic venture. It must be noted that the superstar gave back-to-back hits in 2023, overwhelming the box office with the sheer power of his talent.
