The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has installed a software to trace motorcyclists travelling in Lahore without helmet.
Each violator identified with the help of the software will face an e-challan worth Rs2,000. Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar announced on Thursday that the software and CCTV cameras would be used to impose the penalty.
He said wearing helmets was crucial to avoiding accidents and the hefty fine while travelling on motorcycles in the city.

According to a spokesperson, the software has been developed by the PSCA and the identified violators would receive the e-challans at their home addresses. Last month, over 21,000 motorcyclists were issued challans on roads for not wearing helmets, and 393 drivers under the legal age faced action.
In addition, 2,053 vehicles emitting smoke were impounded and fines were also imposed over violation of lane discipline in the city, a spokesperson for the traffic police said. Meanwhile, the PSCA has also launched a ‘Crime Stopper Service’ for the citizens for sharing information about crimes in their areas.
