BAJAUR:

A tragic incident occurred in the marble quarry of Islam Dheri, Salarzai tehsil, located near the Pak-Afghan border in the Bajaur tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. During a landslide on Thursday, a laborer named Nawaz lost his life as he was buried under stones, while another miner, Rahimullah, sustained severe injuries.

Local residents reported the incident, highlighting the hazardous conditions within the marble quarry.

Nawaz, a resident of Salarzai, worked as a miner and tragically met his demise during the landslide. Rahimullah, another miner at the site, was critically injured and promptly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

The rescue operation was initiated with the assistance of Rescue 1122 to retrieve Nawaz’s lifeless body from the debris. Simultaneously, the injured Rahimullah was rescued and shifted to the hospital for medical treatment.

This event is indicative of a larger issue in the mining industry in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, where accidents occur regularly without garnering adequate attention from concerned authorities.

Just a day prior to this incident, two miners lost their lives in a coal mine collapse in the Darra Adam Khel area of the Kohat district, a region notorious for frequent mining accidents.
