PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has embarked on a significant endeavor to uplift the state of education in the newly merged tribal districts, taking a proactive stance towards enhancing literacy. The government has unveiled an initiative titled ‘Ilam Da Tolo Dapara,’ signaling a commitment to address the longstanding issue of low literacy rates in these regions. This effort includes the revival of dysfunctional educational institutions as a pivotal first step.

Dr. Aamer Abdullah, the Caretaker Minister for Newly Merged Districts Affairs, Industries, Commerce, and Technical Education, has outlined the ambitious plan, emphasizing the urgency of launching the ‘Ilam Da Tolo Dapara’ campaign on a war footing. The primary objective is to breathe new life into educational institutions that have long remained inactive due to various challenges.

The campaign holds a dual focus on promoting education for both males and females in these districts, recognizing the importance of inclusivity for a holistic societal development. Dr. Abdullah underscores the critical need for strict supervision of the campaign to ensure its effectiveness and successful implementation.

To facilitate the initiative, a district-level task force is set to be established. Comprising experts in the field of literacy, this task force will play a pivotal role in overseeing and guiding the campaign. The careful selection of individuals with a deep understanding of the educational landscape ensures that the efforts are targeted and aligned with the unique needs of each district.

One of the key strategies involves the revival of dysfunctional educational institutions by boosting student enrollment.

Recognizing the multifaceted nature of educational development, the government has entrusted the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) with the task of conducting a feasibility study. This study will identify suitable institutions for the introduction of technical education and skills training courses, broadening the scope of educational offerings in the region.

The caretaker minister highlights the holistic approach of the government by emphasizing the integration of technical education and skills training into general educational institutions. This synergistic approach aims to equip students with practical skills, enhancing their employability and contributing to the overall development of the region.

In tandem with these efforts, a provincial task force has been established, spearheaded by the Chief Minister. This task force is tasked with expediting the overall development process in the merged districts. In a recent meeting, the agenda prominently featured government initiatives in the education sector, with a special focus on decisions related to the ‘Ilam da Tolo Dapara’ campaign.

The caretaker minister assures that the campaign will kick off during the current academic session, demonstrating a sense of urgency in addressing the educational needs of the region. Importantly, the commitment is to provide quality education without imposing an additional financial burden, utilizing the existing infrastructure effectively.

However, the challenges are not underestimated. To address concerns of transparency and accountability, a comprehensive survey has been initiated to identify ghost schools.
