Police foil attempt to grab 17-acre land in Korangi

Arrest eight members of land mafia group; leader, others manage to escape

KARACHI:

The police on Saturday foiled an attempt by the land mafia to seize 17 acres of land in Korangi’s Zaman Town area.

According to details, armed members of the land mafia group tried to seize 17 acres of land near Korangi Creek within the remits of Zaman Town police station.

However, the police reached the spot and foiled the attempt, arresting eight members of the mafia, while their leader and other accomplices managed to escape.

The caretaker Sindh government and the police appear helpless in front of the land mafia, which is why its members are involved in grabbing lands day in and day out.

The police arrested eight land mafia members, including Kamran Abbas, Abid Hussain, Syed Nauman, Subhan, Rizwan, Naveed Ahmed and Ghulam Hussain.

According to the plaintiff's case, the armed accused arrived to occupy the 17 acres of land located near Korangi Creek between 4pm and 4:30pm. The armed accused made the people there sit on the ground and threatened to kill them if they moved.

When attempts were made to stop the land mafia group from occupying the land, they threatened of dire consequences.

Soon after, the Zaman Town police arrived at the spot and arrested eight suspects while the other members of the land mafia group managed to escape.

According to details, one of the accused sat in a vehicle bearing number KZ-8707 and called a person named Nasir.

The police started investigation against the eight accused taken into custody. Case no 22/2024 has been registered against them.

The police have started conducting raids to arrest the other important suspects, including the leader of the land mafia group.
