The Basant festival, marked by kite flying, has been rescheduled in light of the upcoming elections, and it will now be celebrated on February 16.

Previously, the Basant night was scheduled to be held on February 8 and the main Basant event was expected to be organised on February 9. However, as per the new decision, the Basant night and main Basant event will now take place on February 15 and February 16 respectively.

With the beginning of the New Year, kite flying has intensified in Rawalpindi Cantt with enthusiasts all set to celebrate the Basant festival. Moreover, this year, the Kite Flying Association has advertised Basant on social media and has announced that no kite flyer will be allowed to use metallic strings. All cords will be made from basic thread only and anyone caught using metal wire as a string will be held and handed over to the relevant authorities, the association added. The association has requested the government to end the ban on Basant.

On the other hand, the association has announced the delivery of millions of strings and kites to Rawalpindi by the end of January. The association said they will cater to eager kite flyers by providing strings at their residences upon request.
