Three drug peddlers get jail terms

Special court announces sentence of nine years of imprisonment

ATTOCK:

Three drug peddlers were sentenced to varying ranges of jail terms by different courts in Attock on Tuesday.

In the first case, a special court for the Control of Narcotic Substances (CNS) sentenced a drug dealer to 9 years of imprisonment besides imposing a fine.

The man was arrested by the district police during a raid within the limits of the Saddar police station. Mehran Buksh was booked under section 9-C CNSA, 1997, after recovery of 1.05 kilograms of hashish from his possession. The judge of the special court pronounced the judgment after recording statements of witnesses and final arguments from both sides.

In the light of the statements of the witnesses, the convict pleaded guilty and was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs0.1 million on him. Moreover, another special court sentenced a convict to 9 years imprisonment. The police had arrested him from the limits of the Hazro police station. Muhammad Riaz was booked under section 9-C CNSA, 1997, after recovery of 1.93 kilograms of hashish from his possession.

Separately, a CNS court sentenced an accused to 10 years imprisonment besides imposing a fine. The drug dealer was arrested by the police during a raid at his den in the limits of Hazro Police station. The convict, Niaz Akbar, was booked under section 9-C CNSA, 1997 after recovery of 1.52 kilograms of illicit substance.
