Punjab Agriculture (Extension) Director Dr Ishtiaq Hussain said on Saturday that a 50 per cent increase had been witnessed in cotton productively in the province last year after using drone technology with the guidance of scientists.

Chairing a meeting, he said China was the top cotton producing country because it was using the latest technology and artificial intelligence to control pest attacks on crops. “If we use the latest technology and the China model with artificial intelligence, we could succeed in obtaining eight million cotton bales from Punjab,” he added.

Central Cotton Research Institute Director Dr Naveed Afzal said the crop could help earn foreign exchange by increasing textile export in addition to catering to the domestic needs.

The participants approved a project to increase cotton production in 2024.
