The National Spice Summit 2023 brought together key stakeholders from the food industry, advocating for the enhancement of red chili quality and the creation of an ecosystem to meet local demand and explore potential export markets. Hosted by National Foods Limited, the summit facilitated discussions among industry players aiming to achieve self-sufficiency in cultivating this essential household spice.

Amid dynamic shifts in the regulatory landscape of export markets and challenges posed by inconsistent Maximum Residue Limits, stakeholders issued a call for collective action to improve the quality of red chilies for export.

Inspired by the success of the “Seed to Table” project, which strengthened the tomato value chain, the company hopes to fortify the red chili value chain. Plans include cultivating red chilies to meet internal requirements, with a future scale-up aimed at substantial contributions to the export market.
