LAHORE:

Two police constables on Wednesday were injured in a grenade attack at the garage of the residence of former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar in Lahore’s Garden Town.

The constables, Khuram Shahzad and Amir Mumtaz, were performing their guard duty at the residence of the former top judge when an unidentified motorcyclist approached outside the house and hurled the grenade.

The two constables suffered injuries while the windowpanes and other items were damaged when the grenade exploded.
The former chief justice was present inside his residence with his family.

They were provided first aid by Rescue 1122 teams. Rescue 1122 received information about the blast on a call made at 9pm.
Senior police officers including the CCPO Lahore, DIG Operations, SSP Operations, additional IG Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and DIG CTD as well as the experts of the Bomb Disposal Squad and Punjab Forensic science Agency (PFSA) reached the scene.

Taking notice of the incident, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar has sought report from CCPO Lahore.
According to the Punjab police spokesperson, initial investigations suggested that it appeared to be a move by anti-state elements to spread fear among public.

The spokesperson added that the involvement of foreign hostile intelligence agencies could not be ruled out. Following the incident, security measures in the area have been heightened. The authorities have also imposed restrictions on the movement of vehicles and pedestrians on the road leading to ex-CJP’s residence.
