Govt to build museum near Iqbal mausoleum

Participants decide that all the items used by Iqbal will be displayed in one place

LAHORE:

The Punjab government has decided to build a museum near Mazar-e-Iqbal for displaying all items attributed to the Poet of the East.

The museum dedicated to Allama Iqbal would be constructed on the premises of the historic mosque. All the items used by Allama Iqbal would be displayed at one place, the participants of a meeting decided on Saturday.

They also decided to restore the rooms of the mosque to a pristine condition.

Senior Member of Board of Revenue Nabil Javed, while giving a briefing about museum and mausoleum, said the bookshop beside the Mazar would have all books of Allama Iqbal; souvenir and craft shops would also be established at the museum.

The participants were informed that the inner marble of the tomb would be washed and polished and the roof waterproofed. Moreover, the canteen and shoe-rack would be moved to a suitable place.

Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi called for the installing the best tiles and providing the highest quality red sandstone and super white marble for the mausoleum.
