IHC will hear NAB's appeal, seeking increase in former premier’s sentence

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) will hear PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s appeal challenging his sentence in the Al-Azizia reference on Thursday (today).

The court will also hear the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) appeal, seeking increase in the former premier’s sentence. A division bench of the IHC comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will carry out the proceedings.

The registrar office has issued the cause list. An accountability court in Islamabad had sentenced Nawaz to seven years in prison on corruption charges. The PML-N supremo had filed an appeal against his sentence.

Meanwhile, NAB had filed an appeal, requesting the court to increase the former premier’s sentence in Al-Azizia reference. Earlier, the IHC had acquitted Nawaz in the Avenfield reference.
