'Gunjal' theatrical release: Film on child activist Iqbal Masih to hit cinemas on December 15

Directed by Shoaib Sultan and produced by Nighat Akbar Shah, a recent Instagram post revealed that upcoming film Gunjal is slated for a December 15 release. The post, which was shared in the grid by both Nighat and Gunjal’s official Instagram account, shared a film poster with the caption announcing the much-anticipated release.

Helmed by Adur Productions, the crime thriller is inspired by true events as described in the post’s caption, “In a whirlwind of sentiments, we’re bringing you an emotional journey: Gunjal (Entangled) which is based on true events that follow journalist Shahbaz Bhatti’s journey as he investigates the murder of child activist Irfan Masih, who had bravely fought against the practice of child labour in 1990s Pakistan.”

The official trailer for Gunjal came out on September 30 with the earlier release date being December 8, 2023. The almost 2-minute-long video teases the film’s tantalising plot, revolving around the real-life journalist Shahbaz Bhatti, played by the skilled Ahmed Ali Akbar. Bhatti embarks on a treacherous journey to uncover the truth behind the murder of child activist Iqban Masih, a brave soul who fought relentlessly against the scourge of child labour in 1990s Pakistan. 

The film thrusts us into a world rife with hidden secrets, intricate conspiracies, and half-revealed truths. As Bhatti navigates through this complex web of intrigue, viewers are promised a relentless pursuit of justice. The trailer itself is a whirlwind of emotions, expertly capturing the tension and enigma that enshroud the film's narrative. It invites viewers to join Bhatti in his relentless quest for the elusive truth. While the trailer offers only a glimpse, it promises a heart-pounding experience in the final film.

Alongside Akbar, the movie features stellar performances by Resham, Amna Ilyas, Syed Muhammad Ali, Sarmed Aftab Jadraan, Razia Malik, Sardar Nabeel, Ali Aftab Saeed, Arham Khan, Ebtisam Mustafa, Habiba Sufyan, Ahsen Murad, Munir Khan, Usman Zia, and Ahmed Ali Butt.
