RAWALPINDI:

The SHO of Rawalpindi's Women's police station, Inspector Irum Khanum, has been removed from her post and transferred following an investigation into accusations of theft and blackmail.

The inquiry, conducted by the Rawalpindi Regional Investigation Branch, focused on accusations involving the theft of money from a complainant's purse and allegations of blackmail against SHO Irum Khanum by a lady muhrir named Anita Naseem.

The probe revealed that the accuser, Anita, had already been dismissed. Despite the completion of the inquiry, allegations of the complainant's relationship with the constable could not be substantiated.

The conflict between SHO Irum Khanum and Lady Constable Anita Naseem came to light last month, prompting an investigation by the SP Headquarters Rawalpindi. The inquiry found Lady Muharar Anita Naseem guilty, resulting in her dismissal from the job.

CCTV footage from the police station surfaced, showing SHO Irum Khanum allegedly stealing money from the complainant’s purse. Discontent with the outcomes, Lady Muharar Anita Naseem and the victim approached RPO Rawalpindi, leading to an inquiry by SSP Regional Investigation Branch Rawalpindi Arif Shehbaz. The victim, a working woman living alone, revealed that the SHO tried to pressure her into settling the case, even involving private individuals, and offering money to settle the matter.

Following the inquiry, the SSP had submitted recommendations to RPO Rawalpindi. Inspector Uzma has been appointed as the new SHO of the Women's police station. Despite these actions, justice for the woman whose money disappeared and faced harassment remains pending.

The Express Tribune attempted to contact former SHO Irum Khanum and the victim for their perspectives on the matter but the efforts couldn’t bear fruit.
