RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has approved a Rs13.6 million upgradation project Pirwadhai Chowk adjacent to IJP Road (now the Karnal Sher Khan Road, Islamabad, one of the busiest roads in the twin cities.

The project, which would include widening and remodelling, is scheduled for completion in two months.

The thoroughfare is routinely clogged with traffic gridlock with an estimated three million vehicles using it daily. This includes heavy vehicles, public transport, and privately owned cars and motorcycles.

The situation becomes particularly frustrating during school timings and peak office hours. The narrowness of the road also causes problems to pedestrians. The project includes remodeling of the pavement.

Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Chatha has issued instructions to expedite the project in order to provide relief to transporters and residents of the twin cities.
