Ektaa Kapoor, Vir Das win big at 51st International Emmy Awards
In a historic moment for India, filmmaker Ektaa Kapoor has been honoured with the prestigious Directorate Award at the 51st International Emmy Awards. Kapoor's remarkable achievement marks her as the first Indian woman filmmaker to receive this esteemed accolade, underscoring her influential contributions to the industry.
Simultaneously, the International Emmy for Comedy was bestowed upon comedian and actor Vir Das, along with the acclaimed series Derry Girls season 3. This marks Das's second nomination for an International Emmy, and he secured the award for his Netflix comedy special, Vir Das: Landing, making him the first Indian comedian to achieve this distinction.
Taking to Instagram to share her joy, Kapoor posted a video featuring the coveted award, captioning it with pride, "India, I'm bringing home YOUR Emmy." The official International Emmy Awards handle announced Vir Das's win with enthusiasm, stating, “We have a tie! The International Emmy for Comedy goes to Vir Das: Landing produced by Weirdass Comedy/ Rotten Science/ Netflix.”
