RAWALPINDI:

The Kallar Syedan police have arrested the main accused in a local volleyball commentator’s abduction and murder, weeks after the horrific crime unfolded.

A police spokesperson revealed on Saturday that the accused identified as Subhan along with his accomplice Zahid had killed Shafiq Gujjar after kidnapping him.

He said the accused held a personal grudge against the victims and planned his murder. They first kidnapped the deceased and later put a noose around his neck, stabbed him to death and threw his lifeless body in a well to cover up their heinous crime.

The police had registered a case against unknown suspects as soon as they received the information about the abduction of the victim, while three days after the abduction, the body of the victim was found in a well located in a deserted area.

Subsequently, an autopsy revealed Shafiq was brutally murdered and his body was disposed of later.

The police said the arrest of the other accused involved in the incident is ongoing.

They also said the accused involved in the serious case will be charged in court with solid evidence.

The case unfolded when the family and fans of the known volleyball announcer announced last month that Shafiq had mysteriously disappeared and his disappearance for three days had left his family and fans in a state of agony. Later the Kallar Syedan police registered a case against the kidnapping of the victim at the request of a complainant named Waheed Hussain.

He told the police that Gujjar had gone to drop off his friend Zahid Ilyas and did not return.
