Around 1,000 children have reportedly dropped out of the government schools in Mianwali district.
The district already ranks at 34 as far as enrolment in government schools is concerned.
Sources said that the government had sought an explanation from the district administration over the matter.
They alleged that only paperwork was being done, and officers were not willing to go out of their offices and visit the schools to get to the bottom of the issue.
With the current state of affairs, no wonder the district had fared poorly when one compares the results of the board examinations.
The number of students at an elementary school in the remote area of Kund is 13 only, but the education department had deputed six teachers there. That means that there is one teacher for every two students.
