KARACHI:

A joint meeting of the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) and the Chief Minister Inspection & Enquiries Team (CMIET), chaired by the Sindh Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, discussed the issue of understaffing of both the agencies.

The CM directed them to eliminate non-technical positions and appoint investigators and technical personnel to enhance their performance.

The chief minister instructed the CMIET to initiate a 100-day Inspection Plan covering all government offices, including hospitals, schools, municipalities, and development authorities. The meeting, held at CM House, was attended by key officials, including Chief Secretary Dr. Fakhre Alam, Secretary of Finance Kazim Jatoi, Chairman CMIET Rafiq Buriro, Chairman Anti-Corruption Zulfiqar Shah, and others.

Chairman ACE Zulfiqar Shah informed the CM about the organisation's role in investigating corruption-related offences and public servant misconduct in the province. Additionally, they investigate corruption cases in government departments, public sector corporations, and semi-government organisations. However, Shah pointed out that they were understaffed, with only 679 personnel out of 1,416 sanctioned positions.

The CM urged the ACE chief to create investigator and technical officer roles instead of non-technical positions. He emphasised recruiting through the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) and called for an automated digital system to streamline complaint registration, inquiry initiation, and decision-making processes.
